Really "Diggin'" the Play-Doh Buzzsaw Playset
By Bingo-Karen Haney
Play-Doh Diggin' Rigs Buzzsaw Playset is the cutest Play-Doh set I think I've seen. Best of all, my 4 year old grandson loved it and could do it totally on his own. He has the bakery set but it is too complicated to work with all the tiny parts and is frustrating for him. With the Buzzaw Playset he can use the 4 colors of Play-Doh to make logs, planks, and pipes depending on what he wants to build.
All he had to do was put the Play-Doh in the truck and it "spits" it out where he can use the arm of the truck to "saw" them any length he wants. The 4 cans the Play-Doh comes in are made to look like construction cones and he was happy to play with them and the truck as he is big into building things.
The truck is a much better size than the tiny bakery pieces and he loves zooming it around and using the detachable saw arm with the two blades. Personally, I really found this set to be much easier to clean up after.
With not so many nooks and crannies for the Doh to get caught in, I just let it dry out after initial cleaning and the next day, the tiny pieces had dried out and I was able to tap them out. Lots of fun for the 3-5 year old crowd plus after the Play-Doh is used up, the truck is a toy that can be used long after.
As to be expected, Play-Doh is fun and this car is great, but my son lost interest and said there are better Play-Doh sets

My kids are huge fans of Play-Doh, and this set has much to recommend it as a Play-Doh set. You get a fun extruder that you can use to build all sorts of construction related items. The truck itself is covered in various moulds for making tools such as hammers, mallets, construction cones, saws, etc. The truck, of course, is a toy car. And you can use the manual buzz saw on the end to cut up the logs you have just extruded.
Overall, my 6 year old had a lot of fun playing with the set, but he's used Play-Doh construction sets he liked more. Play-Doh has sets where the car is a steam roller that flattens Play-Doh, and a set where you can actually crank out roads made of Play-Doh. It's not that the set wasn't fun, but the fact that it is car was sort of secondary since the car itself isn't fully integrated to the Play-Doh experience.
I may be nit-picking, but I saw my son play with the Play-Doh road making kit for hours and normally a new Play-Doh set will keep him occupied for quite a while. He lost interest fairly quickly in the set, commenting it wasn't really a fun truck, and wasn't really a unique Play-Doh toy. So it's high quality, comes with fun accessories, but as my 6 year old commented, Play-Doh has better options. So 4 stars.

This is a great toy for kids that love playing with play-doh.. Extrudes different shapes and the wheels have molds for hammer etc which is a lot of fun to make and play. Some times the extruder spits out play-doh from smalls gaps but it goes right back in to extrude out more shapes.
A total fun toy to keep kids busy and challenge their imaginations :)
A Lot Packed Into One Toy

We got this toy as an early Christmas gift and it has been a big hit. The truck itself is a pretty sturdy extruder...in fact of all of our extruders this is the the one my 2.5 year old finds easiest to use. There are places where the play doh does get stuck, but that is true of any extruder. We usually use another piece of play doh or a coffee straw to clean out the awkward spots.
The rail (the template for the extruder) is not as prone to popping out like our Fun Factory. The rail makes logs, I-Beams, cross beams, and planks (just like the fun factory rails). The plastic on the truck is quite light, but on the other hand this truck is not meant for standing on or rough crash-test play. The set comes with four cans of play doh: orange, green, tan, and blue.
There are several small push molds on the truck, wheels, and cutting arm: wrench, tree branch, hammer, sledge hammer, safety cone, safety light, safety hat, two-man saw, chainsaw, and an ax. The tubs of play doh can be used as safety barrels with the doh-molded lights placed on top. The lights though are tiny, so we find it best to mold two and place them back to back to make them into one two-sided light.
The cutting arm saw comes with two cutting wheels can be easily removed, so it doesn't have to stay attached to the truck. It can be a bit awkward to use, but does the job. The side of the truck with the orange side is where you store the extra cutting wheel when not in use. Play doh does get stuck in the blue cutting wheel, but it is not particularly difficult to remove.
The two front wheels have different tread patterns than the back wheels, so they can be used to make patterns on flattened play doh. It was probably not meant to be a mold, but the flat bed of the truck has a metal pattern that looks cool on gray play doh. My five year old daughter uses the truck for non-play doh play also, but her favorite mold was the branch which she used to make a tree to show off then cut down.
My only minor complaints are they didn't include more "tree" themed molds, only one rail, the safety cone mold is not useful since it is better just to make one, and it would have been nice to have at least one 3D mold to make a hat rather than it being flat and one sided.
